Keepsakes for later · New baby

A message for your new baby, to open on the day you choose

Record it now, in the first weeks, while you still remember what the nights were like and what you hoped for them — a video, a voice note or a letter — and pick the day it reaches them: their first birthday, the morning they turn eighteen, the night before their wedding.

Until then it waits, kept exactly as you left it. On the day, a private link arrives; nobody has to remember, and nobody can open it early. Your first three keepsakes are free; $59 once unlocks unlimited, and nothing ever renews.

How it works for a new baby

1

Record

Open your page whenever something comes to you: what you thought the first time you held them, the name you nearly gave them, the song that got them to sleep. Add to it over months and years — a keepsake a birthday, if you like.

2

Choose the day

Address each one to them and pick its date. Nothing goes anywhere until you do, and you can change your mind any time before it's sent. While they're small, the email goes to the parent or guardian you name.

3

It arrives

On the day, one plain email with a private link. They open it, keep a copy if they like, and it stays there for them. You see what's been delivered and what's still waiting.

What to say to a new baby, for later

Openers, not scripts. A minute is plenty, and it doesn't have to be the big one — start with the thing you'd want them to hear on an ordinary day.

  • You are eleven days old and asleep on my chest as I record this. I wanted you to know what that felt like.
  • We argued about your name for six months. You'll want to know the one that lost.
  • Your grandmother held you first. I'm recording this so you'll have her voice as well as mine.
  • Here's what the house sounded like the week you came home.
  • On your first birthday I want you to know: nobody has ever been more welcome anywhere.
  • When you're eighteen, open this. I was twenty-nine and terrified, and it turned out fine. Mostly.
  • This is the lullaby. I'm not a singer. You never complained.
  • For the morning of your wedding: the day you were born was the best one, until today.
  • A recipe, told properly, because one day you'll want to make it and I might not be there to be phoned.
  • You won't remember any of this year. I'll remember all of it. Here is some of it, for later.

Questions people ask

Can I record now and decide the date later?

Yes. Record whenever something comes to you; a keepsake with no date is stored and never sent. Address it when you know — a first birthday, an 18th, the night before a wedding — and change your mind any time before it goes.

They're a baby. Who gets the email?

Until they're old enough for their own address, the keepsake is delivered to the parent or guardian you name, to pass on on the day. When they have their own email, you can update it; recipients you've told about their page can keep their own address current.

Eighteen years is a long time. Will it still be there?

That's the point of choosing dates: nothing depends on anyone remembering. Once a year we send you the list to check, you can download everything you've recorded at any time, and if we ever wound the service down every author would get twelve months' notice and their export.

What if their address changes before the day?

If an address no longer works when a keepsake is due, it goes to the fallback person you named on it, then to your page's keeper, and we tell you.

Can grandparents record for the baby too?

Yes. Each person has their own page; the gift link is the easy way to give a grandparent one. The baby can have keepsakes waiting from several people, each on its own day.

Can I change it once it's sent?

Right up until it's delivered, yes. Once it's been opened it's theirs, and can't be changed or recalled.

What does it cost?

Your first three keepsakes are free. $59 once unlocks unlimited keepsakes and people for good — no renewals, because a keepsake for a newborn might wait twenty years. Or someone can give it to you as a baby-shower gift.
