Keepsakes for later · For the grandchildren

For the grandchildren, in your own voice, on the days you choose

There are things you'd like each grandchild to hear from you, on a day they'll understand them: a birthday years away, the morning of a graduation, the day they have a child of their own. Record them now — a video, a voice note, a letter read aloud — give each one a date, and it reaches them by private link that morning, from you.

Kept exactly as you leave it, for as long as it takes, in your own voice; we never generate a word you didn't say. Your first three keepsakes are free; $59 once unlocks unlimited, and nothing ever renews.

How it works for the grandchildren

1

Record

Start with one grandchild and one day: their 18th birthday, say. Tell them what they were like at four, the story about their mother at that age, the one thing you'd want them to know. A minute or two, on the phone or tablet; a son or daughter can set it up for you.

2

Choose the day

Give it the date and the address it should reach them at — a parent's email until they have their own, with a fallback person in case an address stops working. Then do the next grandchild, or the next day.

3

It arrives

That morning, one plain email with a private link, from you. They open it where they are; it stays there for them, and you see it marked delivered.

What to say to a grandchild, for later

Openers, not scripts. A minute is plenty, and it doesn't have to be the big one — start with the thing you'd want them to hear on an ordinary day.

  • You're eighteen today. I'm recording this when you're six and you've just told me you're going to be a vet and a pirate. Both, I hope.
  • For the morning of your graduation: your grandfather left school at fourteen. He'd have been in the front row today.
  • Here's the recipe, properly, with the part your mother always leaves out.
  • On the day you have your first child: it goes faster than they tell you. Hold them anyway.
  • This is the story of how I met your grandmother, which I've been told I tell differently every time. This is the true one.
  • Happy 21st. The advice is simple: pay yourself first, call your mother, and never lend money you need back.
  • I'm reading you the letter my own grandmother wrote me, so you've heard her voice through mine.
  • For your wedding morning: whoever you've chosen, I already like them, because you did.
  • On your 30th: here's what I was doing at thirty, and what I'd have done differently. Mostly the same, honestly.
  • No occasion. Just hello from a Tuesday in your childhood, from the garden, with the dog.

Questions people ask

I'm not good with technology. Can I still do this?

Yes. It runs in the browser on a phone or tablet, with one button to record. A son or daughter can set up the page and the recipients in ten minutes, and the gift link is the easy way for them to give it to you.

Can I record for several grandchildren?

Yes. Each keepsake has its own recipient and its own date, so the eldest's 18th and the youngest's can be years apart. Your first three are free; $59 once unlocks unlimited keepsakes and people, which is what a large family needs.

The grandchildren are small and don't have email. Where does it go?

To a parent's address until they have their own, with a fallback person you name. We check the addresses with you once a year, and a parent can update them as the children grow.

What if I'm not here on the day?

It still goes out on its date, with no one's intervention. The email says when you recorded it and makes no claim about you. We chose dates because they need nobody to verify anything and no one to get a hard call wrong.

Can I add to it over the years?

Yes. Record another at any time and give it a date; a keepsake every birthday, all for the same morning, is a fine way to do it. Anything not yet delivered can be re-recorded or deleted.

Will it still be there in fifteen years?

That's the point of choosing a date. You can download everything you've recorded at any time, and if we ever wound the service down every author would get twelve months' notice and their export.

What does it cost?

Your first three keepsakes are free. $59 once unlocks unlimited keepsakes and people for good — no renewals. Or a son or daughter can give it to you as a gift.
